Why Kendall Jenner Swears By Laser Genesis

Supermodel Kendall Jenner claims Laser Genesis is her skin care secret.

In the winter of 2015, supermodel Kendall Jenner opened up about her struggle with acne since the eighth grade. She shared that it “ruined [her] feeling of self-esteem” and how she often covered her face with her hands when speaking with people. We hear similar stories from our patients at SKY. Women use bangs to hide forehead blemishes. Men grow beards to cover unsightly skin. Young adults photograph themselves from a certain side, to hide an undesirable perspective. We are constantly bombarded by media featuring models with flawless skin, making it refreshing to hear Jenner’s authenticity. We can all relate to the struggle for seeming perfection.

Jenner is still making headlines with her story, in large part because she claimed one of the secrets behind her now photogenic, glowing skin is regular Laser Genesis treatments. The beauty industry starting buzzing about the previously little known treatment and the maker of Laser Genesis, Cutera, began including Jenner’s images in its marketing material as a testament to the treatment’s impressive results. Now Jenner is suing Cutera for using her likeness in ads without her permission.

Regardless, it’s safe to say that Laser Genesis is no longer a secret, and that’s a good thing. Laser treatments in general are an important part of the skin care regimen because they reach deeper layers of the skin - unlike topical skincare products and most chemical peels - allowing correction on a cellular level. On the spectrum of available laser treatments, Laser Genesis is not only the most versatile, but also the one with the least downtime, making it a great option for those with sensitive skin.

Laser Genesis reduces:

  • facial redness
  • enlarged pores
  • brown pigmentation

Laser Genesis smooths:

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • rough skin texture
  • scarring

And that’s all in one laser! Not only that, the treatment itself is painless and there is no downtime. You can go from the treatment to work or to a social outing, no problem. According to double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Sirius K. Yoo, M.D., “Anyone who is dealing with one or more of these issues would be an ideal candidates for this laser.”

How it works

Laser Genesis is unique because of the combination of long pulse duration and long wavelength being distributed by the laser. The wavelength targets the important chromophores which play a productive role in healthy and glowing skin. Activation of these parts of the cells stimulates collagen synthesis (collagen creation) and immediate collagen tightening.

The gentle heat produced by Laser Genesis penetrates well below the skin’s surface into the cellular level to breaks down damaged capillaries and shrinks pores. The heat is also stored in your skin’s dermis layer which helps dissipate trapped blood and redness beneath the skin’s surface to give you clear and glowing skin.

What to expect

There is very little to worry about when it comes to Laser Genesis. Similar to a spa treatment, you check in, sign a consent and then lay back and let the treatment begin. No numbing cream is necessary.

The laser beam targets certain areas of your face in a specific order. When an area is targeted, you’ll feel gentle heat slowly build (like lying out in the sun at the beach). If it begins to get uncomfortably hot, you raise your hand and we move on to the next section. Each person is different and therefore the amount of energy targeted to a certain area should be tailored to what feels comfortable to you. The entire Laser Genesis treatment takes about 30 minutes.

Afterwards, you may get some very subtle swelling and look flushed, but usually you won’t be able to see any visible signs that you had the treatment done. All the hard work is going on at the cellular level!

It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

They say if it’s too good to be true… so what’s the catch? “The one downside to Laser Genesis is that it requires a series of treatments before you see any results,” explains Dr. Yoo. “It’s a gradual process and maximum results can take six or more treatments.”  There is always a trade off between down time and instant results. With essentially no downtime, the Laser Genesis takes time and repetition to see results.

Insider Tip: Combine an IPL and Laser Genesis treatment to see quicker and more significant results! Laser Genesis is able to reach vessels too deep to be addressed by the IPL. This is due to the longer wavelength used by the Laser Genesis. This combination is an especially effective treatment for people dealing with rosacea!
