Making Miracles Happen: Supporting Rady Children's Hospital

In many ways, much of the past month was spent supporting one of our favorite nonprofits, Rady Children's Hospital.

Our Vice President, Amber ended her first year on the Auxiliary board as director of technology by hosting a workshop on websites and blogging. Fifteen volunteers who raise donations for the hospital attended to learn how to create and maintain websites as well as the benefits of blogging and how to start a blog. Amber teamed up with the folks from Sage Tree Solutions to lead the workshop.

The next week, Amber attended the Auxiliary's end-of-the-year celebration where she was inducted to the board for a second term, again as director of technology.

At the event, Dr. Donald Kerns, the president of Rady Children's Hospital, Dr. Joseph Gleeson, and Stephen Jennings, spoke about the exciting new genomics institute the hospital is launching. Using the latest advances in technology, Rady's will use DNA sequencing to diagnose and treat neurological diseases, some of which have been untreatable before now! Funding for this innovative endeavor will be provided in large part through a special endowment the Auxiliary has started. SKY Facial Plastic Surgery is honored to have been among the first to donate to the endowment.

The next week, Amber and Ashaya attended the Miracle Makers Gala at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego where they learned more about the genomics institute and enjoyed a fantastic performance by NRG!

Next on Amber's agenda? In addition to her board position, Amber was recently voted co-chair for next year's Heard it Through the Grapevine fundraiser! Giving back has always been important to Amber and we are happy to support her continued volunteer work.
