Most of my patients come to see me because they want to make their outward appearance reflect how they feel inside – young and vibrant. When we are young, our face appears supple and smooth. We all know what happens when we age. The skin develops wrinkles and sunspots. Everything starts to droop. But, do you know what’s causing those changes? Knowing the answer is the first step to obtaining a more youthful appearance.
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. This past weekend, we had a fun team outing! We met up at Great News! for a chef’s class on knife basics. The 3-hour class, taught by Executive Chef Katherine Emmenegger, covered the anatomy of a knife, the correct form for handling a knife, how to chop basic vegetables, and proper knife care.
Have you ever felt like you have lot of questions, but do not know how to ask? We’ve come up with a list of four questions for you to ask that will help you make an informed decision when considering plastic surgery.
Day 17 - Speakers, Data & Plumbing — SKY Facial Plastic Surgery
Day 26 - Fun at Kelly's — SKY Facial Plastic Surgery
Day 3 - Millwork and Sinks — SKY Facial Plastic Surgery
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. Today is Day 37 of construction. Kelly and I visited the millwork shop that is building our custom furniture to check in on the progress.
Day 4 - Up Above — SKY Facial Plastic Surgery
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. You are going to be shocked by the progress in today's post! (Well, I am at least.) This week, the drywall is being prepped for paint. All of the seams where the drywall panels join together are covered with plaster in order to create a smooth, seamless wall to paint.
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. More exciting progress at the 4S Ranch office! It's amazing what a fresh coat of paint will do to a space!
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. After the site visit today, Kelly Hinchman and I stopped by the millwork shop to check on the furniture that is being custom built for our 4S Ranch office. First, we looked at the progress on the credenzas that will be in the consultation rooms.
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. It's Day 68 of construction and it's Valentine's Day! What better way to celebrate Valentine's than falling in love with pretty things at Studio H? We stopped by to review suggested art and accessories for the new office in 4S Ranch. The first piece was hard to miss -- a substantial original work of art called "Meteor Shower" in a gorgeous blue with pops of metallic shimmer.
Day 7 - Drywall, Insulation & Electrical — SKY Facial Plastic Surgery
Today is Day 72 of construction at the 4S Ranch office and it's a big day! We're nearing the finish line ... a LOT is going on. In the lobby, we used a laser to review the placement and scale of our sign behind the reception desk.
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. On Day 75 of construction, the floors are going in!
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. It's Day 76 of construction and we are moving in next week!!!! This weekend I got together with Kelly Hinchman, our interior designer, to review the art plan for the space and do some crafts. We've been bouncing ideas for art off of each other for several weeks, but now we need to sit down and finalize our plan. We placed a piece of wax paper over the floor plan and marked out where art is needed. Next, we looked at all of our options and set aside our favorites. Then, we used the budget and measurements to determine which pieces will go where.
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. We stopped by the 4S Ranch office on Day 77 of construction and are so excited to see the floors and tile totally done! In the lobby, the wall of stacked white quartz looks absolutely stunning.
I can't believe that today is the big reveal. Construction is DONE and we are moving in! Kelly Hinchman and her team at Studio H spent the entire day moving in furniture, artwork and accessories. Just like you see on HGTV, we had planned a "reveal" where Dr. Yoo and I walk through the finished space (with no peeking during the day).
Because we are in a newly built building, when we first moved in, many of our patients reported having a hard time finding us. Apparently, GPS systems that don't recognize our address will either reroute patients to the shopping plaza next door or, in the worst case, take them to our old location in La Jolla! If it is your first time visiting us, we recommend using the directions provided in this post.
Dr. Yoo will be an instructor at the 2012 Rejuvenation of the Aging Face conference, hosted by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). The AAFPRS invited Dr. Yoo to be an instructor in the laboratory portion of the conference, where he will teach other facial plastic surgeons advanced techniques.
When Dr. Yoo sees a patient who wants to look more youthful, his recommendations are most often injectables, surgery, or a combination of both, depending on the patient’s facial structure, aesthetic desires, and skin type. When does he recommend one versus the other? In this blog post, we’ll review the different treatment options and what factors Dr. Yoo considers when recommending one over another.

Since choosing "finishes" (flooring, paint colors, fabric, etc.) with our interior designer Kelly Hinchman, we’ve been working on finalizing the Construction Documents (CDs), which are the set of blue prints the construction team will use. The CDs are incredibly detailed, down to where each electrical outlet will be placed. Now we can close our eyes and visualize walking through the finished space.

b y Denise Hansen For more than 25 years, October has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During this time, great strides have been made in the fight against this deadly disease. Those of us whose lives have been impacted by a diagnosis of breast cancer are acutely aware that there is much more to be done, and that is why I am committed to raising awareness and funds to continue the fight.
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. It's Day 58 of construction on our new office in 4S Ranch and the cabinetry has arrived at the site for installation! The cabinetry was built offsite according to the the "shop drawings" that are based off of the original construction documents and measurements taken at the site. Right now, individual units (e.g. a stack of drawers) are sitting in various rooms of the new space, waiting to be unpacked and installed.
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. It's Day 64 of construction and Utgard is getting ready to install crown molding in the consultation rooms and offices!
I decided to take the plunge. I've been thinking about the recommendations that Dr. Yoo made at my consultation. I decided to get Botox. It took me a while to come to the conclusion, but I am very happy that I did. In this blog post, I share my experience as a first-time Botox patient.
He was very professional, but at the same time pleasant. You can see that he enjoys and loves what he does and wants to transmit comfort to every patient. He said that if I had doubts of any kind I could give him a call directly and talk a little bit more. He shows himself to be very open and available to the patient, which I appreciated because most doctors seem too busy to give you their time. You can really feel that Dr. Yoo believes that every patient deserves sincere attention.
Guest written by Lauren Dominguez, our MBA intern. Before the internship started, Lauren scheduled a consultation without telling the team that she was the new intern. In this post, she writes about her SKY experience. Have you ever considered getting plastic surgery or injectables? Whether it be something as noninvasive as Botox or fixing a confidence-killing imperfection with surgery, many of us have that lingering curiosity. What could plastic surgery offer me?
There always seems to be a bit of confusion when people are discussing a mini-facelift versus a full facelift. Online sites claim results between the two dramatically differ, the length of recovery is drastically longer with a full facelift, or even the full facelift takes much longer and costs twice as much as a mini-facelift. This information is not entirely accurate.
Turtlenecks and strategically draped scarves do not have to be a fashion staple anymore for women over 40! We all know that the neck is one of the first places to show signs of aging, which is why it’s always surprising how few skincare products actually target this fear-inducing area. No wonder Nectifirm, Revision Skincare's anti-aging cream specifically formulated for the neck, is so popular with our patients!
If you picked up this month’s issue of Ranch & Coast Magazine, you may have noticed that our very own, Dr. Yoo, was featured as a Portrait in Excellence! Here’s the article:
This year, Dr. Yoo was once again featured in San Diego Magazine's Top Doctor Issue! In case you missed it, here’s the article:

San Diego Magazine featured SKY as one of its top five picks for the month! Hard to believe we edged out the totally adorable puppies and kittens at San Diego Humane Society (where I used to volunteer as a cat photographer) to win the #2 spot!
We were featured in the 92011 Magazine! See the full article.

When searching for the best plastic surgeon, most people know to look for a surgeon who is board certified, but what they don’t realize is that board certification is a very broad/general qualification. We’re sharing our insider knowledge to help you know what to look for when searching for the best plastic surgeon.
Summer is one of the best times to live in sunny San Diego! However, before you claim the beach as your home for the next three months, keep in mind that this incredible San Diego sunshine comes with some seriously alarming effects to your skin. Not only does exposure to sunlight radiation account for more than 90% of premature aging symptoms, but UV radiations can also cause rapid skin discoloration and even cancer. Here are some top skincare tips on how to safely enjoy the sunshine this summer...
One of the most common cosmetic changes my rhinoplasty patients request is removal of their dorsal hump, or the bump on the bridge of their nose that they feel is particularly unflattering when viewed on profile. The typical questions I hear are during the initial consultation include...
Last week, The Washington Post reported the results of the new study led by behavioral researchers Jason Rogers and Abbe Macbeth that gives validity to the so-called Resting Bitch Face (RBF), a meme that took the Internet by storm in 2013 and largely focuses on celebrities.
They say, “Eyes are the windows to the soul.” Our eyes show emotion and help express how we are feeling. When we are older, our eyes may start to convey the wrong message. There are a lot of reasons for tired-looking eyes, but to keep it simple and (hopefully) entertaining, here are three main reasons.

We love HWAC and we love being involved every year with this amazing event that keeps the FUN in fundraising!
The following article written by Dr. Sirius K. Yoo was published in the fall issue of Connect the Docs' newsletter and distributed to San Diego physicians. Vision is arguably our most important sense. Good eyesight is a gift that many of us are born with. We depend on sight to navigate our daily activities, to see our loved ones and to experience the beautiful world we live in. We often don’t realize the true value of good vision until it’s gone.
We had so much fun this morning! Our entire staff participated in supporting a good cause and sold newspapers to raise money for “the kids” of Rady Children’s Hospital.

We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome we received from the community at our March 27 Grand Opening celebration!
Dr. Yoo found this parakeet in front of a local grocery store tonight. The bird is not afraid of humans and kept flying into the glass doors. We think it is someone's lost pet. With the help of the store's staff, Dr. Yoo got the bird into a paper bag with holes punched in it, purchased some birdseed and took her home.
by Amber N. Yoo, MBA If you've never cuddled an 8-week old puppy while wearing a ball gown, I highly recommend it. Last week, I had the good fortune of participating in a Ranch & Coast magazine photo shoot for Helen Woodward Animal Center’s annual Spring Fling . Our heart goes out to the families who lost someone in this tragedy to our nation. And we are forever thankful to the brave men and women in uniform who risked and lost their lives to fight for our freedom.
by Amber Yoo, M.B.A. You know you work with pretty cool people when they choose a murder mystery dinner show for the team holiday outing! Earlier this month, we offered Ariana and Denise three choices for an outing: dinner at Escondido’s Vintana, a dinner cruise during San Diego Bay’s Parade of Lights, or a murder mystery dinner show by The Dinner Detective. To our delight, they chose the murder mystery dinner show.
Introducing the latest game-changing injectable, Kybella! Kybella is the first FDA-approved injectable that helps dissolve fat. Yes, you read that correctly; there is now a non-surgical option to get rid of that stubborn fat underneath your chin. This liquid injectable has an active ingredient called deoxycholic acid, a fat-absorbing substance that is naturally found in our bodies. Once injected, fat cells underneath the chin are destroyed, and the fat cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, which means the results are PERMANENT!

by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. We’re all familiar with the “medical caduceus” – the symbol of two serpents wrapped around a winged staff. We see it everywhere – on ambulances, in medical offices, and on medical-related websites. Would you be surprised to know that America’s got it wrong?
If you’re considering Botox or fillers for the first time, there are three things to consider: how you want to look, who is performing the injections, and what type of follow-up care is included.
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. It’s time for our second HIPAA lesson! The Privacy Rule protects all protected health information (PHI) transmitted in any medium (electronic, paper or oral) by a covered entity or its business associates. In this lesson, we'll cover what I consider the three most important parts of HIPAA’s Privacy Rule: uses and disclosures of PHI, notice, and access.
Do an online search for "liquid facelift" and you'd think the procedure was meant for everyone. Celebrity rags are claiming it's the beauty secret of Hollywood stars. MediSpas, dermatology clinics, and even family practices are touting its benefits. With all the hype liquid facelifts are getting, I think it's time we discussed a few myths about this trendy procedure.

When you think of winter, what do you think of? The holidays? Cold nights spent snuggling next to a crackling fire? Plastic surgery? Wait, you don’t think of plastic surgery? Fun little fact: Winter is the best time of the year to have plastic surgery.
After months of research, you've finally decided to go through with elective surgery. This tends to be the stage when patients become most nervous because they don't know what to expect. It's normal to feel nervous! Read your pre-op packet closely and make a list of any questions you have so that you can ask your surgeon at your pre-op appointment. Also, keep in mind the top 5 things to expect after plastic surgery, listed below. We've included a special focus on facial plastic surgery (our specialty) as well as some of our best insider tips to help speed up the recovery process.
As San Diegans, we are fortunate to enjoy a relatively mild climate year-round. Still, mild as it is, wintertime presents a real challenge when it comes to keeping our skin looking and feelings its best. The dry, cold winter air and the use of indoor heat can rob the moisture from our skin, leaving us feeling itchy and flaky. Fortunately, making just a few simple changes to your daily regimen can improve skin’s suppleness and restore a healthy glow.

Yesterday, we closed the office to volunteer for the U-T Kids’ NewsDay benefitting the Rady Children's Hospital of San Diego. Each year, hundreds of volunteers don yellow aprons and hit the streets to sell special edition newspapers featuring the life changing stories that take place at Rady Children's Hospital. The nonprofit hospital is recognized as one of the nation's top ten full-service pediatric health facilities, and all Kids' NewsDay proceeds go towards the patients and their families.
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Yoo was named Best Cosmetic Surgeon by Ranch & Coast Magazine! Ranch & Coast was first established in 1983 as an exclusive Rancho Santa Fe community publication. Today, the self-dubbed "Ultimate Lifestyle" magazine is one of San Diego's favorite luxury publications.
by Amber N. Yoo, M.B.A. Construction has started on our new space in 4S Ranch! On Friday, the general contractor "snapped the lines," which means they drew the layout on the floor of the space. We walked the space to make sure that everything looked right. The photo below shows where the walls will be for the exam rooms and the hallway handwashing station.
Last month, one of our wonderful patients—who we’ll call “Jane”—gave me permission to “shadow” her during her cosmetic surgery experience. I first met Jane at her consultation visit. She wanted a more youthful look around her neck and jawline. In order to achieve her desired look, Dr. Yoo recommended a mini facelift.
We recently had a patient come in for Radiesse treatment, so I thought I’d share her experience (with her permission) so that others could know what to expect.
In the winter of 2015, supermodel Kendall Jenner opened up about her struggle with acne since the eighth grade. She shared that it “ruined [her] feeling of self-esteem” and how she often covered her face with her hands when speaking with people. We hear similar stories from our patients at SKY. Women use bangs to hide forehead blemishes. Men grow beards to cover unsightly skin. Young adults photograph themselves from a certain side, to hide an undesirable perspective. We are constantly bombarded by media featuring models with flawless skin, making it refreshing to hear Jenner’s authenticity. We can all relate to the struggle for seeming perfection.
